I don’t actually know (or at least I don’t remember). That’s just the way the ranks have been setup since the start. There might be some forum posts from that time when this forum was being setup that has the reasoning.
Well, no matter what I’d guess the ranks are going to stay like how they are like now for a good amount of time…
What materials would radioactive chunks be modeled after, or are they going to be just general radioactive rocks.
I can guess there will be some visual clues to the nature of those chunks (assuming “radioactivity” doesn’t just end up being a compound).
Well no, there is the Macroscopic group now
Speaking of that, I think I might have skipped that one? I went from multicellular to aware before the split was made.
I meant that as in following this split-up (I posted that message after the split has already occured).
I noticed on the wiki (Microbe Biomes) that Acidity was originally planned as a factor that microbes would need tolerance for. Is that still part of the plan?
I can guess salinity might be more important than acidity. I mean, just how many tolerances do we really need?
But at this time all of Thrive’s patches are saltwater. It even says: “(This might be an unnecessary variable to include)” at the end of the line. Until freshwater is included, salinity makes no sense. Though after that point . . . .
Do you think freshwater patches will be added for microbes one day?
Not sure. Maybe. Though I don’t think it’s high priority. Let’s see where the Planet Generator goes. Once freshwater patches are created, be it as part of that or for later organisms, it’s reasonable they could be applied to microbes.
Yeah. I wonder just how diverse will they get…
Are there/were there any plans for adding a sex/conjugation pilus into the game?
I recall it might’ve been mentioned a long time ago on the dev forum but now the signs that it’s coming to the game are null with the roadmap. I don’t think it’d be a realistic thing anyways, as I don’t recall s-reproducing eukaryotes using “sex piluses”…
If the metabolls of the macroscopic/aware stage are tissues of cells of the multicellular stage, then how will the structure of these cells be reflected in the metabolls?
Maybe as the cells influence the structure of a tissue, so does the tissue change in it’s appearance and characteristics? Through I’m unsure if the player will be able to edit individual cell types and not only tissues by macroscopic.
Visually? How is the structure of your cells reflected in your bodyparts? Not very clearly, I would say. You could argue for the cell color, and Thrive already does that!
I imagine the properties of the tissues will be determined by the cells though, for example muscle tissue being made up of cells with myofibrils.
I think at the present there are two tissue types possible in multicellular: muscular and brain. A metaball can be either, both or neither.
No, I mean how will this be reflected in the gameplay, for example: what will happen if I add another mitochondria, flagellum or pili to a macrscopic organism tissue cell?
Not sure if the individual cell types of a tissue will be editable by macroscopic. If they are to be, expect LOTS of work on the “what effects do cell organelles have on a tissue” system which’d be developed in such a case.
