Quick Question Thread

The steam version just returns an error, without starting the game, I don’t remember what it is, but I’ll check later today.

Please do. Knowing the error will be a lot more useful to know than not. Also if the game actually crashes, I’d recommend you use the crash reporting functionality of the launcher.

I checked yesterday, turns out I just needed to give it admin access.

Will the Signaling Agent affect one microbe at a time or the area around the player’s cell?

It affects all cells of the player species (that are spawned in). Now that I think about it, I don’t think I implemented a max range for it, if I remember right. That’s something for someone to work on in the future.

Imagine you just call some cells to attack, then you see an army of cells in the distance you didn’t even know existed swarm an enemy cell.

Well for now the attack command just increases the AI’s aggression, so they wouldn’t actually specifically try to find a cell near the player to attack if they are far away.

thrivesync

What the hell happened? I’ve never seen that cloud symbol before…

I believe it is a newly added feature to Steam

It’s an icon used to represent your current steam cloud status. Each game in your library will automatically update their cloud as you click on them, though some will have errors.

To fix your sync error, simply click that icon and retry the syncing process and it should go away, no worries.

Well, I clicked on “Play”, and it fixed the issue.

If there are new evolution discoveries (e.g. if RNA-world hypothesis has been proved), by the time Thrive is finished, will that affect the development? Would there be an update if those discoveries are quite important?

As long as we don’t have the zeroth stage (abiogenesis) added, I don’t think that changes much. Unless we can show that a single blob surrounded by cytoplasm is not what formed first, we might tweak / add organelles to the initial microbe or something.

Where did the “Today I Learned” page go? I need to revive it real quick.
Edit: never-mind, found it.

Can the creatures from thrive guess that they are in the simulation?

Not unless someone figures out self aware AI first.

What happened to all the developers who left the development of thrive and where are they now?

Hello! I just wanted to ask something, if that isn’t any trouble. Will there be a cutscene made at some point showing the life on the player’s planet being “born”? I just think it would be very memorable and immersive if we could see life being created for the first time on our planet upon starting the game. Thanks!

Currently, If I’m not mistaken, there is a short cutscene showing you (the first living organism) floating into view.

Yes, and it’s a very beautiful cutscene, but it does not show the life being born, it simply floats into view. If you look very carefully you can see more of the cells in the background, so this is not the first. Maybe there would be a cutscene before this one showing the cells being born for the first time.

Huh, I never noticed the other cells

While checking the game’s assets, I realized that thrive_logo_big.png is kinda blurry. Is there a version of it with higher quality?
