The Disturbance: Underwater, or Surface Creature?

i’d say crossbows are usable even if you dont have limbs as good as human arms. Also Thats just human weapons, if you arent human there might be other options, like flying or climbing species might use gliding darts.

I have a feeling that we have drifted off from the topic of disturbance a bit.
What sort of blood could it have?

It’s coldblooded. I know it. I don’t have proof but it IS coldblooded.

Does coldbloodness make it harder to evolve sapience?

dunno, thats an interesting question. I feel like it could slow a lot of stuff down, and the correlation between intelligence and warmbloodedness isn’t exactly helpful for a cold blooded sapian, but It doesen;t sound like a big disadvantage to me.

Perhaps they could only be sapient in a certain temperature range?

I don’t think the creature being underwater could preclude it from developing civilization given its limbs, it can still build.

However, I did notice there are reflective puddles around its feet. Which would mean, its either on the surface, or there is a mysterious denser-than-water liquid there. As for the spots, they loom more like specks of dust (possibly in the lens) than bubbles.

And given its numerous limbs and adaptations to an active lifestyle I don’t think this creature “evolved automatically” in a passive way without collecting resources ahem ahem cough cough

And the plant looks more land-based to me. The creature also seems very small because only small plants grow like that.

It couldn’t develop beyond society stage tho.

civilization existed before metalworking, I don’t think we have an underwater civs arguement here.

Can’t wait until somebody suggest that disturbance is actually a plant

new conspiracy theory: disturbance is a colonial organism.

So it’s only like a worker ant? How would a soldier disturbance look like then?

this is obviously what soldier disturbance would look like :person_facepalming:

So the disturbance species already has access to modern warfare?

no, like it is the coloney, like a man o’ war jelly

So what would be disturbance then? A juvinile? Or an already full-frown adult?

If they can develop persistent knowledge systems such as writing, they can eventually develop industry.-Underwater or not, I am not talking game mechanics but realities. We don’t stop making submarines or exploring/exploiting the ocean just because we are a surface dwelling organism. If a civilized species existed on water, they could have surface land industries just as we have water/ocean industries and craft.

That’s called an amphibious civ to my knowledge.

By that logic, if we created underwater cities we would be an amphibias civilization. I assumed that amphibias, land dwelling, and underwater civilizations are simply defined by how a species can live in a location comfortably without any outside or mechanical help.

I imagine that the disturbance would be a pretty intelligent creature, perhaps on the level of a dolphin or even elephant. I always imagined them human size, but I can see them being incredibly tiny. What would their civilization and culture look like if they were a sapient species? What might they wear? And no matter if they’re land walking or water breathing, how, do, they, breath.

what about inside mechanical help, or inside chemical help that’s of artificial origin?

also, what if a species breathes with its digestive tract, but gets its oxygen from photosynthesis, and stores several hours, maybe even days, of iron in a specialized form of hemoglobin that acts like it does in sickle cell patients, that’s only located in the bones?
