Having been to school in Finland, I can’t really relate to that video. As university is free here (at least the first degree if you have citizenship in any EU country), there’s never been a ton of pressure to get perfect grades. It probably helps that the city I live in has a university and it isn’t one of the top competitive ones, so basically anyone who puts in some effort in studying can get into some degree programme there. Also teachers here must have advanced degrees and have taken pedagogic studies, so in theory they should know how to teach well. And finally especially the fact that curiosity and asking questions was stamped out, was the complete opposite of what I experienced. We were always encouraged to ask clarifying questions or for extra details. In fact part of our grades was just literally made up of classroom participation, which I was pretty bad at due to nervousness.
I’m jealous of Finnish education system. In Poland schools are overcrowded, there’s a high pressure for good grades, teachers often are abusive (e.g. yelling at a child for having bad grades and shaming them in front of the rest of the class), ect. Recently there’s been a spike in depression cases (cause the country (and pretty much the rest of the world) is going to sheesh, all the abuse, ect.) and there was an issue of students cutting themselves in school bathrooms. You know what schools did to stop this behavior? Yes, they removed the bathroom doors. Also the way that most things are taught just doesn’t make much sense, like, we are forced to remember a Belgium ton of useless information, of which 90% we are going to forget in just a few days after the exams.
That is, kind of close to what she talks about we should do. Don’t put to much pressure on people to get good grades, encourage classroom partition, done make grades a core part of how you survive in the world, these are your first 18-19 years alive after all.
Nies situation however, is the exact opposite. People were publicly shamed by teachers for bad grades, (which are supposed to be private) instead of helping people in need they make the problem worse for everyone, and the students aren’t engaged in 90% of the content.
Your two schools seem to have opposite approaches to learning. Very interesting to see.
Well the same is starting to happen in Finland as well. Luckily (or maybe sadly) teachers are still trying to get good outcomes with the limited resources they have, but I’m not sure how much more can be cut from education before the future is ruined (as it takes a really long time for a new generation to grow up once schools are fixed).
I think that’s a thing everywhere… I’ve seen someone comment that much of what schools do is just being a follow up to kindergarden to keep kids there for the day, and any actual learning is just a bonus. It’d be pretty nice if teaching was actually structured with the goal of children retaining a core set of actually important information.
And I thought my school was bad because there wasn’t even soap in the bathroom
This is another level of madness
Oh and funni fact a car caught fire in front of my school just now, I’m on the soccer court because the principal said so
did anybody actually enjoy cyberpunk edgerunners?
I’ll say what I want to say: I HATE THE CYBERPUNK AESTHETIC.
I know it has nothing to do with what you asked, but ANYWAY
I appreciate trying to make a hyper-capitalist dystopian world, but I don’t like it when people see that as cool. Seriously, who would want to live in a city that has so many signs that you can’t sleep even with the window closed? I mean, other than Las Vegas locals?
Another important factor is the personal environment. I live near São Paulo, which basically is a kind of real-life cyberpunk city, but more “Detroit becomes human” cyberpunk than 2077.
Like, look at this:
You might think “wow, so cool, I want to live there”
But seeing it so many times gets boring.
And like cyberpunk, it’s what you’d expect: An extremely capitalist and dystopian place. It’s not cool, it’s just realistic
i more meant the characters and animation.
i just found it all kind of… annoying.
i seriously think the scene was when Adam Smasher appeared and killed everyone.
i also kind of liked david’s mom but she wasn’t in the picture for long.
I just started watching it so no spoilers please. I’ve watched just 2 episodes so far, but I think I’ll probably watch the entire season at least.
I haven’t watched it, but I like rebecca.
You are making no sense
Exact.
@Nie why did you edit my livestream questions thread title to add a typo into it?
just a bit of little trolling, I was wondering if anyone would notice
Trolling other people’s posts or threads is not allowed, even if trolling in your own posts a bit is allowed. I immediately received a notification that one of my posts was edited. If you do it again, I’ll lock you permanently to trust level 2.
Ok. I won’t do it again.
So ya guys going today?
Studying for a big test in biochemistry, why?
Over the last two/three weeks, I made a writing system. Here’s an example:
I called it “Krzywokreska”.
Interesting. The style of the “letters” reminds me a bit of Tamil
By the way, I made a concept of an intelligent alien species (Their lives on that same moon I posted in the art thread the other day) I tried to make a conlang for them, but I don’t know anything about conlangs so it must have looking awful
(Sorry for the bad drawing)
