When you mean keep your units together, do you mean your whole army stay together, so Zenzone can’t specifically target your cavalry for example?
If so, the bonus and malus get calculated either way for every unit participating in the fight, so in that situation, even if you got the malus from the cavalry, you could still get a bonus from the archery.
